Stormtrooper in Stilettos Cowl by Emma Sadler

Stormtrooper in Stilettos Cowl by Emma Sadler Designs

The Stormtrooper in Stilettos Cowl pattern is named after one of my favourite Queen songs – She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes). The central cable panel is delicate and interesting in the way it ebbs and flows from loops to lines. The delicacy is like the stilettoes, but the lines is reminiscent of row upon row of men.

The cowl is knitted as a double fabric in the round. It has the stitch effect on the front and plain stocking stitch on the back. It can be made narrower or longer to suit the wearer’s personal preference. Once the pattern is established this is a great project to do in front of the TV. It uses a provisional cast on and then the two ends are joined together with Kitchener stitch.

The cowl was knitted in WYS Signature 4ply (75% wool, 25% nylon) in colourway Dusty Miller 129. It comes in small, medium and large. The yarn is made with 40% Wool, 35% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% Nylon and has approximately 400 meters per 100 gram ball.

This pattern wouldn’t be possible without the help of my tech editor, Linda at TabithaThomas or my wonderful test knitters.

The cowl patter is also quite quick to knit up so would make a great last minute gift if you find yourself needing to whip something up from your stash.

About the Stormtrooper in Stilettos Cowl

This easy, fast-knit cowl is a sure winner for Christmas or gift knitting. I’ve designed the cowl in three widths (or heights) but you can easily also adjust the length to make a longer loop, but you’ll need more yarn.

If you prefer a neutral colour, like the samples I’ve shown, it’ll go with pretty much anything. Don’t, however, be afraid of a bold or bright colour to make a real statement piece to go with your best Winter coat.

If you fancy a heavier weight cowl, you could make the shortest width/height using a thicker yarn, a DK or Worsted for example, use larger needles, it’d be lovely and warm for Winter.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear.

Extraordinary Edith Shrug Pattern by Emma Sadler

Extraordinary Edith Shrug Pattern by Emma Sadler

Edith Shrug Pattern by Emma Sadler Designs

Edith is one of three shrugs in a set, using the same basic shape but worked with a different type of knitting stitch. These shrugs are perfect to pop over your shoulders when you are watching TV, relaxing on the sofa or to cover up a little when sitting outside. The super chunky wool will keep you warm, even on the chilliest of evenings!

They are mainly knitted in a rectangle, from the bottom up. There is a little shaping at the back of the neck using short rows. The arm holes are made at the end by folding the edges together and sewing them up just part of the way. As it uses super chunky weight yarn the shrug will knit up quickly. Perfect if you want to whip up a quick gift for a loved one! The Edith shrug is knitted with the diagonal basket weave stitch. This is a really eye-catching stitch which looks more difficult than it is. The pattern uses 750g – 800g of super chunky weight yarn.

It is knitted bottom up, with set in sleeves and the band down the front and round the neck are picked up and knitted. The stockinette stitch makes it perfect for a variegated yarn but would also look fabulous in a plain colour.
