Elaine’s Scottish Run Boho Beret – Emma Sadler

Elaine’s Scottish Run Boho Beret – Emma Sadler

Elaine’s Scottish Run Boho Beret by Emma Sadler

I designed this beret for one of my running friends, Elaine; she had requested that I make her a red beret. This was at the same time that we were away for a double parkrun over the New Year. We weren’t in Scotland, but someone that she knew seemed to think we were. From then on this particular trip become affectionately known as ‘Elaine’s Scottish Run’.

The hat is a tam style with a providional cast on and double brim ribbed section. The stitch count is then increased for the main body before swirling decreases at the crown.

The samples were knitted in Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic) in colourway Burgundy 1035 and Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK (75% Merino, 20% silk, 5% cashmere). Or choose your own favourite DK weight yarn. The pattern comes in small, medium and large.

Produced with huge thanks to my tech editor – Tabitha Thomas Studios and my wonderful test knitters.

About the Elaine’s Scottish Run Beret Pattern

The Elderwood Walk Beret pattern is knitted with dk weight yarn.    You could substitute any soft dk weight yarn. I I used 4mm needles but if you wanted a drapier fabric, you could go up to a larger needle size. You might use more yarn, so allow for that when choosing your colours.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear. In this case, it’s for me and I saw this yarn and felt it was perfect for the hat and cowl for the Elderwood design, it’s machine wash, soft and a stunning colour.

Epic Boho Summer in Robin Hood’s Bay Hat by Emma Sadler

Epic Boho Summer in Robin Hood’s Bay Hat by Emma Sadler

Boho Style Summer in Robin Hood’s Bay Beret

This stylish, boho Summer in Robin Hood’s Bay hat pattern is the lace weight version of the Autumn in Robin Hood’s Bay beret. It combines sections of a traditional Old Shale pattern with stocking stitch.

This hat was designed following a visit to my LYS. As soon as I walked into the shop the skein of yarn caught my eye, and try as I might, I just couldn’t walk away from it!

This is the same as how I feel about Robin Hood’s Bay, which is why I named the set after this beautiful part of Yorkshire. I am drawn to the place, again and again. The pattern reflects the pull of
the sea in the dramatic colour, the plains of the North York Moors in the sections of stocking stitch as well as the dramatic cliff edges in the lace.

The hat is a beret/tam style; the shape combined with the lightweight wool means it has an interesting drape. It is big, loose, light and airy which is perfect for the transition the weather of spring brings to the UK. There is a matching scarf which is ideal for beginners to lace.

The skein was West Yorkshre Spinners Exquisite (80% Falkland wool, 20% mulberry silk) in colourway Savoy 371. Both the hat and the scarf can be made from one skein.

The scarf can be found here

The brim comes in small, medium or large. 17 (18, 19)“/43 (46, 48.5)cm. It has charted and written instructions plus a schematic.

About the Summer in Robin Hood’s Bay Boho Hat Pattern

The Spring in Robin Hood’s Bay Boho Hat pattern is knitted with yarn from The Knitting Goddess.  I used her 4ply Britsock yarn, linked below, and it’s a dream to work with.  The colour range is fabulous and you should check out her gradient sets.  I love to promote British yarns whenever I can, so do let me know your favourites.   I blocked my hat using a large dinner plate to show off the beautiful crown and give it the distinct Tam shape.

Crave-worthy Julestrompes Christmas Stockings by Emma Sadler

Crave-worthy Julestrompes Christmas Stockings by Emma Sadler

Crave-worthy Julestrompes Christmas Stockings Emma Sadler

These Christmas stockings are knitted using Cascade Yarns Heritage Solid in red, green and white. They use a cuff down and heel cuff method of sock knitting with Scandinavian style motifs. The toe is finished using Kitchener stitch for which there is a link to a video tutorial.

The pattern includes instructions to make four styles of Christmas stockings.

Christmas Stockings Variations One and Two use stranded colour work to create the motifs, these could be mixed and matched to create more possibilities.

Christmas Stockings Variations Three and Four use stripes for more of a candy cane effect. You will be able to make all four stockings from the three skeins of yarn.

The instructions for the stockings include charts for the motifs as well as written instructions.

The Christmas Stockings will look fabulous on the mantelpiece as decorations for your Christmas festivities. You could even hide a small gift or two in them. A real heirloom gift to pass down through the family and one that will be much treasured by the recipients.

The pattern includes a schematic, written and charted instructions. It has been professionally tech edited as well as test knitted.

About the Julestrompes Christmas Stockings

Heritage Solids & Quatro by Cascade Yarns ® Fingering / 4 ply – 75% Merino, 25% Nylon – 400 meters / 100 grams. I used a single skein each of three colours red, green and white.

The stockings are knitted cuff down with a proper heel flap and will hold a number of small gifts or other fun surprises.

The stranded colourwork motifs could be mixed and matched easily to create an extra stocking or two for larger families. You don’t have to stick to red, white and greenn. You could choose colours based on the college they’re attending, favourite sports teams or Harry Potter house colours. Have fun with it and make them with lots of love.

Sensational Staindrop Socks Pattern – Emma Sadler

Sensational Staindrop Socks Pattern – Emma Sadler

Sensational Staindrop Socks Pattern by Emma Sadler Designs

These socks were designed during a phase when I was obsessed with the Old Shale stitch and how it could be paired with sections of stocking stitch. The lace stitch goes down the back and front of the leg, stops at the heel on the back but carries on to the toe on the front.

The construction is a cuff down, and they come in 8 sizes from toddler, through womens and to mens sizes.

A pair of large mens socks can be made from one ball of 100g 4-ply/fingering weight sock yarn.

About the Sensational Staindrop Socks Pattern

The Everglade Tam is knitted with dk weight yarn.    You could substitute any DK weight yarn. I used 3.5mm and 4mm needles and King Cole Glitz Double Knitting . The Hat / Beanie pattern has instructions for three sizes from 17 to 22 inch brim to fit a broad range of heads and hair volume. The design features a reverse stocking stitch background on the cable panel, to show off the cable stitches and let them shine.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear. In this case, I loved the Merida colourway of the 4ply / fingering weight yarn. As Merida lived at Dunbroch, it was the obvious name for the sock pattern, a bit feisty, fun and a way to showcase a variegated yarn.

“I knit, therefore, I am amazing.”

Dazzling Dunbroch Socks Pattern – Emma Sadler

Dazzling Dunbroch Socks Pattern by Emma Sadler Designs

These socks were designed when I was playing around with how many rows of stocking stitch I wanted to put in a repeating pattern. In the end I liked the effect and so it stayed! The lace stitch goes around the whole leg, stops at the heel but carries on to the toe on the front.

The construction is a cuff down, and they come in 8 sizes from toddler, through womens and to mens sizes. The colourway of the wool I used was called Merida. She came from Dunbroch, hence the name of the pattern.

A pair of large mens socks can be made from one ball of 100g 4-ply/fingering weight sock yarn.

Pattern includes a schematic and has been test knitted.
