The Everglade Beanie Hat features an optional bobble detail. I added a faux fur bobble, but making one in matching yarn will look great too.

The beanie is knitted in the round with a large ribbed brim. There is one tree pattern cable detail which can be worn either to the front or the side.

Sizes available:
Small, (Medium, Large)
Finished brim circumference:
17, (19, 22)”
43, (48, 56) cm

Written and charted instructions are included as well as a schematic.

The pattern has been test knitted. As always I am so grateful for my amazing test knitters. You know who you are and you’re awesome!

With thanks to my tech editor Tabatha Thomas

The sample was knitted in King Cole Glitz DK (97% polyester, 3% nylon) in colourway Savoy 371. The large size takes about 60g of yarn. You could substitute any DK yarn that you like, use up some stash or a luxury skein that you’ve been saving just for you.

About the Everglade Boho Beanie Hat Pattern

The Hat / Beanie pattern has instructions for three sizes from 17 to 22 inch brim to fit a broad range of heads and hair volume. The design features a reverse stocking stitch background on the cable panel, to show off the cable stitches and let them shine.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear. In this case, it’s for me and I saw this yarn and felt it was perfect for the Everglade Beret / Tam and the matching Everglade Beanie style hat. Which style do you prefer?

Unforgettable Everglade Tam DK Pattern by Emma Sadler Designs

The Everglade Tam is a beret/tam styled hat; the motif is a cable which looks like a tree and can be worn either to the front or the side. It is designed to be worn big and baggy for a boho slouchy look. It has a small ribbed band which can be made bigger and you could add a pom pom to the top for added detail if preferred.

Apart from the single motif, the rest of the hat is knitted in stocking stitch in the round.

The sample Tam / Beret was knitted in King Cole Glitz DK (97% polyester, 3% nylon) in colourway Savoy 371. The large size takes about 60g of yarn. You could substitute any DK yarn that you like, use up some stash or a luxury skein that you’ve been saving just for you.

Adorable Arthur’s Seat Blanket Pattern for a Baby Blanket by Emma Sadler Designs

The Arthur’s Seat Blanket pattern was designed for my new great-nephew, Arthur, who was born earlier this year. I wanted to use squares of different colours but I didn’t want to end up having to sew them all together. I used two shades of grey and a cream, some squares were knitted in one colour and some in two to create a more interesting pattern when they were lined up.

I am in love with garter stitch, I found it really stretchy and with an interesting texture and drape. The mitred squares are made first and then stitches are picked up around the edges in order to knit them together. The outside border is knitted in the round, and the construction means it isn’t a perfect square, but instead has slightly pointed corners.

It is one size and takes approx 650g of DK weight baby yarn.

Why the Arthur’s Seat Baby Blanket?

Why did I choose to name the Arthur’s Seat Blanket pattern after Arthur’s Seat?   In this case the name came firstly from my great nephew who is called Arthur and I knitted this baby blanket as a gift for him.  But, anyone who has ever been, or would love to visit Edinburgh, will have heard of Arthur’s Seat.   Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano and the path up Salisbury Crags is the site of the radical road which has a fascinating history linked to the weaver’s (radicals) who came to the city and built the radical road to the summit of Arthur’s Seat.

Baby blankets are an awesome gift, why is that?

I think blankets are such a thoughtful gift for new Mum’s for their baby.   They’re super handy for in the car on cold morning’s when you’ve got the baby in a car seat and want to keep them warm while the car warms up.  They’re great to throw on the sofa for when you’re nursing the baby, reading or just enjoying time together.  It feels like a warm hug and it’ll have your scent on it, to calm a crying baby when needed.   A baby blanket also helps to keep Mum warm too, while she’s cuddling baby or making the most of a little cat nap while the little one is fast asleep.

Arthur’s Seat Blanket for baby is a fabulous heirloom to pass down the family

They might use the Arthur’s Seat blanket when they have their own children and grandchildren in future generations.  The Arthur’s Seat Blanket is knitted with love in every stitch, how utterly cool is that?  What colours will you knit your Blanket in?   A rainbow?  Neutrals or with pops of bright colour?  I’d love to see them.

Fashions might change, but a knitted or crochet blanket always reminds us of home, of safety, of comfort and time with family.

Introducing the Arundale Vest Pattern by Emma Sadler Designs

The Arundale Vest Pattern was designed this for my Dad, however it would look just as good on a woman as it does on a man!

It is knitted using Rowan Felted Tweed DK. It makes it a lightweight, yet surprisingly cosy wardrobe staple. Perfect for those days that are a little chilly and you need something warm but not too restricting. The sleeveless design makes it ideal for tidying up the garden in the autumn and winter months, or to pop on whilst you are busy around the house.

The main body of the Arundale Vest Pattern uses the Hedgerow colour, the chevron pattern, arm and neckbands introduce the Avocado and Clay colours. The large stockinette stitch section means this is a great project for knitters who wish to add a little colour into their work.

The Arundale Vest pattern knits up surprisingly quickly and could be a great autumn or winter project for those long evenings in front of the TV. It is knitted bottom up, in two pieces with the arm and neck edging added at the end.

Arundale Vest Pattern Gallery

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear. It might need to be machine washable yarn, pick up extra for any minor repairs in case of thorns and other garden mishaps.   Then knit with love in every stitch.

My Dad loves his garden but sometimes feels the cold on his back, especially on breezy days, hence the need for a warm vest. The Arundale Vest allows my Dad to move around, get things done and not get too warm.
