These Christmas stockings are knitted using Cascade Yarns Heritage Solid in red, green and white. They use a cuff down and heel cuff method of sock knitting with Scandinavian style motifs. The toe is finished using Kitchener stitch for which there is a link to a video tutorial.
The pattern includes instructions to make four styles of Christmas stockings.
Christmas Stockings Variations One and Two use stranded colour work to create the motifs, these could be mixed and matched to create more possibilities.
Christmas Stockings Variations Three and Four use stripes for more of a candy cane effect. You will be able to make all four stockings from the three skeins of yarn.
The instructions for the stockings include charts for the motifs as well as written instructions.
The Christmas Stockings will look fabulous on the mantelpiece as decorations for your Christmas festivities. You could even hide a small gift or two in them. A real heirloom gift to pass down through the family and one that will be much treasured by the recipients.
The pattern includes a schematic, written and charted instructions. It has been professionally tech edited as well as test knitted.
Heritage Solids & Quatro by Cascade Yarns ® Fingering / 4 ply – 75% Merino, 25% Nylon – 400 meters / 100 grams. I used a single skein each of three colours red, green and white.
The stockings are knitted cuff down with a proper heel flap and will hold a number of small gifts or other fun surprises.
The stranded colourwork motifs could be mixed and matched easily to create an extra stocking or two for larger families. You don’t have to stick to red, white and greenn. You could choose colours based on the college they’re attending, favourite sports teams or Harry Potter house colours. Have fun with it and make them with lots of love.
As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear.
These socks were designed during a phase when I was obsessed with the Old Shale stitch and how it could be paired with sections of stocking stitch. The lace stitch goes down the back and front of the leg, stops at the heel on the back but carries on to the toe on the front.
The construction is a cuff down, and they come in 8 sizes from toddler, through womens and to mens sizes.
A pair of large mens socks can be made from one ball of 100g 4-ply/fingering weight sock yarn.
The Everglade Tam is knitted with dk weight yarn. You could substitute any DK weight yarn. I used 3.5mm and 4mm needles and King Cole Glitz Double Knitting . The Hat / Beanie pattern has instructions for three sizes from 17 to 22 inch brim to fit a broad range of heads and hair volume. The design features a reverse stocking stitch background on the cable panel, to show off the cable stitches and let them shine.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear. In this case, I loved the Merida colourway of the 4ply / fingering weight yarn. As Merida lived at Dunbroch, it was the obvious name for the sock pattern, a bit feisty, fun and a way to showcase a variegated yarn.
These socks were designed when I was playing around with how many rows of stocking stitch I wanted to put in a repeating pattern. In the end I liked the effect and so it stayed! The lace stitch goes around the whole leg, stops at the heel but carries on to the toe on the front.
The construction is a cuff down, and they come in 8 sizes from toddler, through womens and to mens sizes. The colourway of the wool I used was called Merida. She came from Dunbroch, hence the name of the pattern.

I needed something to wear on my feet for my Pilates class. I found normal socks didn’t let me grip with my toes, and going without socks I would have cold, uncomfortable feet. So I designed the Ashram Pilates Socks.
About the Ashram Toeless Pilates Sock Pattern
The Toeless Pilates socks are knitted using Coach House Yarns British Falkland Corriedale 4ply / fingering weight. I used the totally awesome Vampire Rock Chick colourway. The Toeless Pilates Socks are knitted using a cuff down method of sock knitting with no heels or toes so that you can grip the floor during your workout session.
There are two versions of the Ashram Toeless Pilates Socks Pattern;
Version One Socks – has a plain stocking stitch leg with a cabled foot
Version Two Socks has a cable running the full length of the sock.
Both versions have a section of ribbing at the top and bottom.
Both versions take approx 80g of 4ply/fingering weight yarn each, but you could make the leg part of the socks slightly longer to use the full skein if preferred. If you have another skein to match, you could make some matching fingerless mittens to complete the set.
As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear. In this case, it’s for me and I saw this yarn and fell in love with it.
The socks are a quick knit using any sock yarn, choose a yarn with some nylon say 25% for durability but most socks yarns are suitable. The cable option shows best with a plain or kettle dyed yarn to let the stitches show. But the plain version of the pattern is perfect for that skein of hand dyed sock yarn you’ve had kicking around forever and been afraid to use.
It’s an ideal introduction to cabled socks as there is one simple cable cross for each pattern repeat. The socks are knitted in the round, experienced knitters will have a preference for either dpns, short circular needles or working magic loop. Do whatever works for you.
