The Stormtrooper in Stilettos Cowl pattern is named after one of my favourite Queen songs – She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes). The central cable panel is delicate and interesting in the way it ebbs and flows from loops to lines. The delicacy is like the stilettoes, but the lines is reminiscent of row upon row of men.
The cowl is knitted as a double fabric in the round. It has the stitch effect on the front and plain stocking stitch on the back. It can be made narrower or longer to suit the wearer’s personal preference. Once the pattern is established this is a great project to do in front of the TV. It uses a provisional cast on and then the two ends are joined together with Kitchener stitch.
The cowl was knitted in WYS Signature 4ply (75% wool, 25% nylon) in colourway Dusty Miller 129. It comes in small, medium and large. The yarn is made with 40% Wool, 35% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% Nylon and has approximately 400 meters per 100 gram ball.
This pattern wouldn’t be possible without the help of my tech editor, Linda at TabithaThomas or my wonderful test knitters.
The cowl patter is also quite quick to knit up so would make a great last minute gift if you find yourself needing to whip something up from your stash.

This easy, fast-knit cowl is a sure winner for Christmas or gift knitting. I’ve designed the cowl in three widths (or heights) but you can easily also adjust the length to make a longer loop, but you’ll need more yarn.
If you prefer a neutral colour, like the samples I’ve shown, it’ll go with pretty much anything. Don’t, however, be afraid of a bold or bright colour to make a real statement piece to go with your best Winter coat.
If you fancy a heavier weight cowl, you could make the shortest width/height using a thicker yarn, a DK or Worsted for example, use larger needles, it’d be lovely and warm for Winter.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear.
“I am not self-medicating with yarn. I have a prescription from the lady at the yarn shop. But she called it a receipt. Whatever..”
This Ziga Zig Ahh cowl is designed with a simple slip stitch pattern that creates an interesting zig zag effect in the knitted fabric.
The cowl is knitted in the round on either circular needles or dpns and can be made either in a short, long or extra long version.
It is suitable for a first project knitted on a circular or double pointed needles.
As there are only simple stitches it is ideal for a beginner. You could go up a needle size for a drapier fabric, do a swatch and see which you like best.
Perfect for wearing under coats and jackets, this accessory looks a lot more complicated than it really is.
The simple stitch pattern with it’s slipped stitches is great for showing off self-patterning yarn.

The Cowl pattern is designed in three lengths, a shorter loop, a long and an extra long version. It’s worked in the round using circular needles or dpns for the short loop. The simple but eye catching slipped stitch pattern is sure to bring compliments every time you wear it. Make it in a classic neutral to go with everything or choose a bold pop of colour like a pillar box red for maximum impact.

“Love the pattern, it’s much easier than it looks. “
The Corn Rows Cabled cowl was designed to match the very popular Corn Rows Cabled Headband and boot toppers which are also available in my pattern store. It is knitted flat and seamed at the end.
The cabled pattern is very effective, but deceptively easy. You will soon pick up the repeating pattern. This means that this is the ideal project for working on whilst you are watching the TV.
It is also quite quick to knit up so would make a great last minute gift if you find yourself needing to whip something up from your stash.
The cowl takes 85g of aran weight yarn so it is a great project for using up that left over ball.

This Criss Cross Cabled cowl is simple yet eye catching in it’s construction as it is knitted fast and seamed at the end. It includes both written and charted instructions.
Perran Yarns have offered an exclusive discount code for purchasers of this pattern. The code is included in the pattern.
The cabled pattern is very effective, using both knit and purl stitches to create a cable within a cable effect. It is a split cable which will keep your interest if you are looking for an unusual cable. It is a little more challenging at first, but you will soon pick up the repeating pattern.
It is also quite quick to knit up so would make a great last minute gift. Bigger sizes are achieved by repeating the rows at the beginning and end which will ensure the cable is still in the middle of the cowl.
The cowl takes around 85g to 100g of aran weight yarn. It is perfect for the changing seasons and would make a quick, yet loved gift.

Alternatively, you can use your favourite cast on then it can be traditionally seamed at the end.
