The Stormtrooper in Stilettos Cowl pattern is named after one of my favourite Queen songs – She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes). The central cable panel is delicate and interesting in the way it ebbs and flows from loops to lines. The delicacy is like the stilettoes, but the lines is reminiscent of row upon row of men.
The cowl is knitted as a double fabric in the round. It has the stitch effect on the front and plain stocking stitch on the back. It can be made narrower or longer to suit the wearer’s personal preference. Once the pattern is established this is a great project to do in front of the TV. It uses a provisional cast on and then the two ends are joined together with Kitchener stitch.
The cowl was knitted in WYS Signature 4ply (75% wool, 25% nylon) in colourway Dusty Miller 129. It comes in small, medium and large. The yarn is made with 40% Wool, 35% Bluefaced Leicester, 25% Nylon and has approximately 400 meters per 100 gram ball.
This pattern wouldn’t be possible without the help of my tech editor, Linda at TabithaThomas or my wonderful test knitters.
The cowl patter is also quite quick to knit up so would make a great last minute gift if you find yourself needing to whip something up from your stash.

This easy, fast-knit cowl is a sure winner for Christmas or gift knitting. I’ve designed the cowl in three widths (or heights) but you can easily also adjust the length to make a longer loop, but you’ll need more yarn.
If you prefer a neutral colour, like the samples I’ve shown, it’ll go with pretty much anything. Don’t, however, be afraid of a bold or bright colour to make a real statement piece to go with your best Winter coat.
If you fancy a heavier weight cowl, you could make the shortest width/height using a thicker yarn, a DK or Worsted for example, use larger needles, it’d be lovely and warm for Winter.

As always, when I’m knitting for the knitworthy members of my family or dear friends, I consider how they’re going to wear it, wash it, the colours they love and what styles they wear.
“I am not self-medicating with yarn. I have a prescription from the lady at the yarn shop. But she called it a receipt. Whatever..”
I wanted to make a blanket that was delicate enough to wrap a baby in as soon as they are born. Something that would look beautiful to bring the baby home in or to wrap them in whilst they sleep in the pram or cot.
This blanket has a delicate ‘dot’ stitch which gives the effect of lace without having lots of holes that tiny fingers and toes can get stuck in.
It is one size and takes approx 200g of 4ply baby yarn.

The middle is knitted first with the top lace edge being worked with the live stitches. The bottom and side edgings are picked up and knitted at the end.

“Love the pattern, it’s much easier than it looks. “
These Christmas stockings are knitted using Cascade Yarns Heritage Solid in red, green and white. They use a cuff down and heel cuff method of sock knitting with Scandinavian style motifs. The toe is finished using Kitchener stitch for which there is a link to a video tutorial.
The pattern includes instructions to make four styles of Christmas stockings.
Christmas Stockings Variations One and Two use stranded colour work to create the motifs, these could be mixed and matched to create more possibilities.
Christmas Stockings Variations Three and Four use stripes for more of a candy cane effect. You will be able to make all four stockings from the three skeins of yarn.
The instructions for the stockings include charts for the motifs as well as written instructions.
The Christmas Stockings will look fabulous on the mantelpiece as decorations for your Christmas festivities. You could even hide a small gift or two in them. A real heirloom gift to pass down through the family and one that will be much treasured by the recipients.

Heritage Solids & Quatro by Cascade Yarns ® Fingering / 4 ply – 75% Merino, 25% Nylon – 400 meters / 100 grams. I used a single skein each of three colours red, green and white.
The stockings are knitted cuff down with a proper heel flap and will hold a number of small gifts or other fun surprises.
The stranded colourwork motifs could be mixed and matched easily to create an extra stocking or two for larger families. You don’t have to stick to red, white and greenn. You could choose colours based on the college they’re attending, favourite sports teams or Harry Potter house colours. Have fun with it and make them with lots of love.

This cowl was designed in the same weekend that I ran the Yorkshire Coast 10k race in Scarborough. The weather wasn’t particularly great after a storm had hit overnight and so the sea was quite rough. The view from the top of the cliffs, down over the sea and looking towards the fair made me think of the wavy lines in this pattern.
The Scarborough Fair Cowl is a fast knit, worked in the round, with the lace worked on odd numbered rounds and all even numbered rounds just knit across. There is a section of garter stitch at the top and the bottom to prevent curling.
The cowl pattern has a small and a large version. The large cowl will take a full skein of yarn and the small cowl around half a skein. There is a chart for the lace as well as written instructions and it includes a schematic.

This shawl begins with a traditional semi-circle construction, alternating between a solid and variegated colourway. But I wanted to play around a little bit with the shaping and so I introduced short rows. I am really pleased with the way the stripes from the beginning section and the short rows meet.
The construction is quite simple, including the use of the short rows, which means this shawl is perfect for knitters who are new to shawls, as well as those who want something they can pick up and put down without having to worry about concentrating or losing their place within a pattern.
The whole shawl uses 2 100g balls of 4-ply/fingering weight yarn.
The Mengham Shawl is approximately 99 inches x 16 inches and is designed to wrap around the wearer to create the illusion of layers. I don’t know what it is about the name but it does make me thing of Gangnam Style, perhaps I should rename it Mengham Style? What do you think?
