Awe-Inspiring knitting quotes 2020 – chosen by Emma Sadler Designs

I’m Emma Sadler from Emma Sadler Designs, you might have seen me on social media as @allneedles. I’ve chosen some of the most inspirational and amusing knitting quotes I could find and will add updates as I come across them.

I’m a knitter, crocheter, Mum, wife to Phil and a keen runner. Most Saturday’s you’ll see me at a Park Run somewhere with good friends and enjoying the fresh air. I should also mention my furry companion, Arthur a German Shepherd Dog (GSD) who loves to run with me in the mornings.

“Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn’t hurt the untroubled spirit either.”

“…knitters just can’t watch TV without doing something else. Knitters just can’t wait in line, knitters just can’t sit waiting at the doctor’s office. Knitters need knitting to add a layer of interest in other, less constructive ways.”
― Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

“I knit the afternoon away. I knit reasons for Elijah to come back. I knit apologies for Emma. I knit angry knots and slipped stitches for every mistake I ever made, and I knit wet, swollen stitches that look awful. I knit the sun down. ”
― Laurie Halse Anderson, Wintergirls

“SABLE- A common knitting acronym that stands for Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy.”

“As I get older, I just prefer to knit. ”

If you happen across a pattern that says “heirloom”, slowly put down the pattern and back away.

“Heirloom” is knitting code for “This pattern is so difficult that you would consider death a relief”.

“But unvented – ahh! One un-vents something; one unearths it; one digs it up, one runs it down in whatever recesses of the eternal consciousness it has gone to ground. I very much doubt if anything is really new when one works in the prehistoric medium of wool with needles. The products of science and technology may be new, and some of them are quite horrid, but knitting? In knitting there are ancient possibilities; the earth is enriched with the dust of the millions of knitters who have held wool and needles since the beginning of sheep. Seamless sweaters and one-row buttonholes; knitted hems and phoney seams – it is unthinkable that these have, in mankind’s history, remained undiscovered and unknitted. One likes to believe that there is memory in the fingers; memory undeveloped, but still alive.”

“In life, as in knitting, don’t leave loose ends. Take the time to thank the people who matter in your life.”

“Then the maiden climbed into a tree, and, seating herself in the branches, began to knit.”

A bit about me and Emma Sadler Designs

I hope you’ve enjoyed the knitting quotes I’ve shared with you. They’ve made me laugh, think, pause and want to knit even more. I’m a huge fan of Queen so you might spot some song lyrics or names in my pattern naming.

I’m based in the UK and love being a knitting pattern designer, I’m on Facebook & Twitter as @allneedles or Designs by Emma on Ravelry and Love Crafts. Addicted to running! North Yorkshire, UK www.ravelry.com/stores/designs-by-emma-allneedles

I grew up on the south coast of England, Hayling Island. I moved to North Yorkshire when I went to Durham university. I am a wife & mother to two children.

My Nan taught me to knit at around the age of 8. I knitted on & off for many years. I have been designing since 2013

Did you know that you can sell your finished items from my patterns? Just make sure you credit me as the designer and use your own photos!
