About Emma Sadler Designs @allneedles

Hello and welcome to my website, emmasadlerdesigs.co.uk!  I am so glad you have found me.  Please take a good look around; I hope you find something you like.  You may have purchased one of my patterns from me before.  You may have seen me in a magazine.  Or you may not have heard of me before.  This is probably the ideal time for me to introduce myself.

My name is Emma.  It means universally loved apparently.  I would like to think that is true!  I grew up on the south coast of England.  On a small island between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.  Its called Hayling Island and it is the most beautiful seaside town with lots of countryside.

Emma Sadler Designs – My Story

I’m a wife, mum, runner, knit and crochet designer, dog walker and educator.

When I was 18 I met Phil, whom I married in 1999 in St Lucia.  We now have two children, one grown and the other almost there.  My Adult and Semi-Adult co-habitants.  I spent some time living in Saudi Arabia with my husband for his job.  It was an amazing experience and I met some wonderful people there.  I had my first full time teaching job in a school there.

Eventually we moved to North Yorkshire and that is where we currently are.  I love the countryside, and when the Adult and Semi-Adult eventually fly the nest I think I would love to be somewhere a lot more rural than we are at the moment.  I am at my happiest when I am wondering through the fields with my GSD Arthur.

Obviously, I love to knit.  I learned around the age of 8.  My Nana, my Mum’s mum taught me.  She was a wonderful Yorkshire lass herself.  I would knit a row and hand it back to for her to knit a row.  I couldn’t knit ‘backwards’ you see.  Not until she tricked me and did two rows thereby announcing that I could knit ‘backwards’.   I knitted all sorts of things until I left home at 18.  I then didn’t pick up my needles again until 2011.  Even when my children were babies, I hadn’t knitted them a single thing!  I was off work not feeling well, my parents and I went shopping to and I saw some wool.  I bought some and new needles and I was off.  I haven’t stopped since.

In 2013 I started designing my own patterns.  I had been selling some of my knitting on Etsy but I decided I didn’t enjoy knitting the same thing over and over.  I much preferred shiny new things.  And I had ideas about how I wanted to do things.  The first few things I designed were headbands and boot toppers.  They were mainly things either myself or my daughter would wear.

I currently have a bit of an obsession for hats and cowls.  I love to knit in the round.  I’m not a huge fan of purling or ribbing.  I hope you enjoy knitting my designs.  They have all been tech edited and test knitted to find any errors but if you have questions please send me an email.  And don’t forget to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook!

Here are a few examples of my patterns from Emma Sadler Designs. You can buy them online via my Ravelry webstore which is here.
